The fact that ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is being more frequently diagnosed among children is not new information.  Adult ADHD cases, however, are becoming much more prominent, impacting personal lives, as well as career aspirations.

An estimated 8 million adults in the United States have ADHD.  Less than 20 percent have been officially diagnosed, and of those that are diagnosed, only about 25 percent seek help.*

If you think ADHD might be the cause of your productivity struggles at work, review the following list of symptoms, and be sure to consult your doctor if you’re experiencing one or more items on the list.

Signs and Symptoms of ADHD

  • Inability to focus
  • Disorganization
  • Difficulty listening to instructions or remembering details
  • Inattention
  • Impulsiveness
  • Difficulty completing tasks

As Business Coaches, we’ve had highly successful clients express shame in not being able to keep up with their basic workflow or simple everyday tasks.  The general inability to remain focused during a meeting is also a common complaint.

Many have the gift of being strategic and creative thinkers, but may lack some of the fundamentals for managing detail-oriented tasks. While there is no shame in that, maintaining accuracy, efficiency and timeliness can be much more challenging.
