There are many factors that can impact a company’s overall productivity, including individual employee efficiency, physical/logistical organization and process improvement.  While these areas all  have potential to increase productivity, there are deeper factors that enable adherence and allow maintenance of these productivity enhancing factors.

Improving communication and changing behaviors is a key component in the mission to increase productivity in the workplace.

Increase Productivity with Communication and Behavior Changes

When working with business clients, here are some basic steps I take to help with communication and behavior changes.

1.  Identity the need for improved communication.  When working with business clients, as a third party Productivity Coach, it’s often easier for me to identify tension and disconnect in office relationships.  It can be hard for employees to pinpoint a problem, in which they are immersed on a daily basis.

2.  Open up communication lines amongst employees and leadership.  I work with companies to improve time management skills to allow for greater inter-team communication.  Employees need a system of communication with their team, as well as their boss.  This might mean scheduling standing weekly team meetings, open office hours or monthly one-on-one sessions.  Be sure these sessions have a worthwhile agenda, and always stay on topic.

3. Shadow and observe.  By shadowing individual employees in their job roles, I can observe work behavior, team dynamics and workflow.  This is the part of the process where behavior factors become evident.  Individual behaviors can have a huge impact on an organization’s strive to increase productivity.

4.  Assess and provide recommendations.  Part of my method to identifying communication and behavioral productivity barriers, is to ask many detailed questions, compare findings among employees, share best practices, and offer recommendation for correcting behaviors.

If your organization is struggling with productivity, it might be time to review your communication methods.  Clear roles and communication processes are critical for ensuring smooth operations and happy employees.  If you think you could benefit from a professional productivity review, contact us to schedule a consultation.
